Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Honored at USDA Cyber Security Summit
Fairfax, VA – July 12, 2010 – Customer Value Partners (CVP) would like to congratulate USDA FSIS for being honored as the top agency at USDA for their Information Assurance program. During the 2010 USDA Cyber Security Summit awards luncheon, awards were given at the Project Manager, CIO, and agency levels. The Information Assurance Division of FSIS’ Office of the CIO (OCIO) won awards in all three categories, competing against 28 other agencies within USDA. Elamin Osman won second place for Information Systems Security Program Manager of the Year, Janet Stevens won second place for CIO of the Year, and FSIS won first place for Agency of the Year to be held up as the model USDA agency for cyber security.

Agencies were rated on the following areas:
- Effective oversight of the agency’s security program, improving the quality of IT security, and increasing its productivity;
- Support for USDA’s security policies and procedures;
- Allocation of resources to the agency’s security program;
- Evidence of reduction in all agency privacy and security incidents over an extended time period; and
- Evidence of innovation in the agency’s security program.
“This was an amazing achievement for the Information Assurance Division and the agency,” said Janet Stevens, Chief Information Officer. “All FSIS employees have contributed toward making our information and data more secure. Administrator Al Almanza and Office of Program Evaluation, Enforcement and Review (OPEER) Assistant Administrator Bill Smith’s strong support of cyber security were vital elements in winning awards in all three categories.”
